Artist Statement

English : “Man must rise above the Earth to the top of the atmosphere and beyond for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives. “ ¹

The Universe series is a continuation of my previous series on the theme of our origins. In the Time and the Big Bang (2003-2007), my work was heavily influenced by the scientific work of high-energy physicists with whom I collaborated at CERN (European Centre for Nuclear Research).
The series consists of images of the Universe, starting with the nearest Nebula (Orion - 24 light years) to the most distant Galaxy (Antennae Galaxy - 45 billion light years).

The departure point of my paintings is the black and white image of the Hubble Telescope interpreted with my emotions. I propose to translate these depictions of our Universe and to bring them closer to our human sensitivity. The pieces themselves are modular and worked on various media such as canvas, plexiglass, silk, and video animation. The plexiglass and silk works can be viewed on both sides, as the Xray images. The images are painted with oil paint on one side only, starting with the PM side, the raw brushstrokes underline the formation of the Universe and the layers on top are depicting the evolution towards the more refined AM side. The image suspended in space and viewed through light will reveal the raw brushstrokes underneath.

I hope that this work helps us glance at the stars again, like a child who knows that everything is possible.

La série "Universe" continue ma démarche sur le thème de nos origines.
Dans la série Time et l'installation Big Bang (2003-2007), mon œuvre était fortement influencée par le travail scientifique des physiciens des hautes énergies avec lesquels, j’ai collaboré au CERN (Centre Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire).
La série se compose d’images de l’Univers, de la galaxie la plus proche (Orion – 24 années-lumière) à la galaxie la plus lointaine (Antennae Galaxy – 45 milliards d’années-lumière).

Le départ de mes peintures représente l’image en noir et blanc du Télescope Hubble, interprétée par mes émotions. Mon intention est de traduire ces photos de notre Univers pour les rapprocher de notre sensibilité humaine. Les œuvres, elles-mêmes sont modulables et travaillées sur différents supports tels que la toile, le plexiglas, la soie et l’animation vidéo. Les œuvres en plexiglas et en soie peuvent être vues des deux côtés, comme les images radiographiques. Les images sont peintes à l'huile sur un seul côté et l’œuvre, suspendue dans l'espace et vue à travers la lumière, révèle les couches successives.

Je souhaite que ce travail nous aide à regarder de nouveau les étoiles, comme un enfant qui sait que tout est possible.
